	After reading all the reviews I could find regarding the M-Audio, I decided to give one a try. I've been using it in the field both out and indoors, and my initial opinion is that this is a very useful device. I've had no problem with the mechanics of the M-Audio, and although the physical construction feels a bit too lightweight, again, no problems. Coupled with a proper microphone, I use the Audio Technica AT822, it does a very good job. Audio captured is clean and problem free in both WAV and MP3 formats. The only downsides I see , are the sub-standard phantom power, and the non-user replaceable battery, but neither of those has been a show-stopper. M-Audio has a list on their website referencing mics that have been tested and are compatiable with the device if you require a phantom powered mic. All in all, I'm quite pleased with the M-Audio 96/24, The lower cost of the unit allowed me to purchase a better microphone, which has proved to be a good thing, and also allows me to start saving my pennies quicker for the future purchase of a Sony PCM-D1...I can dream can't I!

	I love this thing! It's easy to use, offers tremendous clarity, and downloads quickly to my PC. Ease of use is important for a hobbyist like me. The other day I walked out to the grass landing strip in our neighborhood, recorded a Waco biplane taking off. Minutes later the sound was on my website (http://greend.com/blue_ribbon.htm). I have a 1/8" electret mic. It is extremely sensitive, so much so that I've just ordered a pad to keep it from overdriving the recorder when too close to noisy engines.
