Description:

The SP-HHM-1 is a high quality cardioid or omnidirectional (select in option box above) microphone that can be plugged directly into the mic input jack of most portable recorders and computers. The microphone is very rugged and has a die-cast metal body. The output jack on the mic is a XLR male gold plated connector. Included with the microphone is an XLR to right angle mini 1/8" (3.5mm) gold plated plug, available in two different lengths (choose length in option drop down box above). A microphone stand adapter is included. The mic stand is optional.

Wiring Options
This microphone is available wired 3 different ways:

  • The "Standard mono" version will work with plug in power (as noted above) and will produce audio on one channel. This is the right choice for mono recorder or stereo recorders that can record in mono.
  • The "Dual mono" version will produce the same mono signal on both channels of a stereo recorder that has plug in power (as noted above).
  • The "Computer soundcard mic input" version will work with computer mic inputs that provide plug in power (as noted above) and USB interfaces. Most computer mic inputs are mono and have plug in power, but check with your hardware manufacturer to be sure. For better sound quality, select the USB microphone interface option.

Power options
This microphone is available with 3 different power options.

  • The standard version (the 'no power' option above) draws power from the mic input of the recorder or computer its plugged into. This microphone can be plugged into any recorder (DAT, MiniDisc or analog) or computer mic input that supplies a bias voltage of between 1.5 and 10 Volts DC at the microphone input jack, commonly known as "plug in power". Many of the recorders on the market today include this feature. In certain recording situations (especially loud situations), you may need an additional power source for your microphones. Details on when you need additional power for your mics are here.
  • If your recorder does not provide power for a microphone, or you are recording loud sounds (as described in this FAQ), you must have a battery module to power the microphone. Choose the 'add battery power module' option above, or you may choose a different module from this page instead.
  • If you want the best possible sound quality when using a computer, select the USB microphone interface option. With this option, you also get a jack to plug in your headphones so that you can monitor what you are recording.

    Sound Quality
The Sound Professionals microphone systems have an extended frequency response and a very natural and accurate sound, providing deep, solid bass, smooth midrange and clean highs. They have a very wide dynamic range, and will handle very high sound pressure levels without distortion or clipping. (See details above for more info).
