Free your creativity with the Track Pack T2 from TASCAM. This package contains the components you need to turn your Mac or PC into a total production system for music, podcasting or production.

The US-144 is your computer's gateway into the audio world. More than just a soundcard, it has a pair of pro-quality microphone preamps for connecting any type of microphone. High-quality condenser microphones - like the included TM-78 - need power to operate, which is achieved with the phantom power switch. Another switch turns on the line input, for recording powered devices like keyboards, drum machines and guitar amp modelers. You can even plug your guitar or bass directly into the US-144. With two inputs, you can record two microphones or sources at once.

The Track Pack T2 also comes with Cubase LE4 software. This software gives you plenty of tracks - up to 48! - to put together a song arrangement, one track at a time. It's simple to use, and you can edit your tracks to fix timing and mistakes to put together a perfect take. Cubase LE4 has a professional-quality mixer built in with plug-in effects like reverbs, compressors, distortion, auto-pan and more. You can add more VST plug-ins later and there are more free and commercial VST plug-ins than any other format. Cubase LE4 supplies everything you need to record your music and turn it into a polished, professional CD.

Condenser mic
A type of microphone that uses an electrically-charged capacitor to capture sound with sensitivity and detail, like the included TM-78

DAW software
DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation, a type of software like Cubase LE4 that allows you to record, edit and mix music or sound effects.

Guitar in
An input with the correct signal and impedance levels for an electric guitar or bass, or an acoustic guitar with a pickup

Interface
Like a soundcard, a computer interface allows you to plug microphones, guitars and speakers into your computer using USB 2.0

Line In
An input with a signal level you get from most powered devices like keyboards, CD players, or effects processors

Mic In
An input with the low signal level coming out of a microphone

MIDI
A control signal that can be sent to or from synthesizers, drum machines, lighting controllers or other devices. The included Cubase LE4 software can record up to 64 tracks of MIDI parts.

Monitor Mix
A knob that allows you to balance the sound directly through the US-144 with computer playback while recording

Phantom Power
Power that travels through a microphone cable to power a condenser microphone, available on either channel of the US-144

Reverb
The sound of a large space like a concert hall or church, one of the effects included with Cubase LE4

VST Plug-in
A piece of software installed in your DAW software that adds an effect to the sound, like a guitar pedal in software. Cubase LE4 software includes VST plug-ins and you can add more.

XLR
The type of large 3-pin cable used with professional microphones. The female (three hole) end attaches to the microphone and the male (three pin) side connects to the US-144. One XLR cable is included in the Track Pack T2

24-bit
Like a camera with higher megapixels, 24-bit resolution gives you more detail to your recordings

96kHz sampling
A high rate of recording - over double the rate of CDs - that captures sound with lower distortion. The US-144 can record at 96k for audiophile-quality performance.
